By Harley Wyatt – Pay Per Head Agent News
Many sportsbook agents, especially those who are new to the gaming industry, are looking for the cheapest pay per head service they can find online. In theory this may seem like a good way to cut operation costs for their sports betting business. After all, a penny saved is a penny earned as the saying goes. Unfortunately these agents end up learning the hard way that another old saying also comes to mind. You get what you pay for.
When it comes to using the cheapest pay per head service available I mentioned that this appeals mostly to newer, younger bookmakers. More experienced bookies understand that the short term immediate savings that they can get with cheap PPH often end up costing them much more in the long run. A seasoned, professional bookmaker understands that the most important thing for the success of their sports betting and gaming business is consistency and quality of service.
There are 2 main factors that can work against a bookmaker when they go with the cheapest pay per head they can find.
- In order for PPH services to be able to offer extremely low rates they must make service sacrifices elsewhere in their business. That can mean having fewer employees available to run the operation and assist players and agents. It often times means that the agent is “on their own” and is provided with very little in terms of customer or technical support. Communications with your PPH service may be reduced to Email Only which can take days to resolve important issues. Cheap PPH offices often resort to hiring inexperienced employees to keep their costs low and when those employees make mistakes it is the agent who ends up paying for it. Maybe the worst practice used by Cheap PPH services is that the “Low Price” is actually a teaser rate to get you in the door and offers only the most basic account set up. In order to receive “Elite Client Status” you are bombarded with cost add-on’s of $1 here or a $1 there that escalate your price dramatically for minor service perks like being able to talk to someone about your account on the phone.
- Quality and consistency are always important in any business if you expect to keep your players happy. Using the cheapest pay per head service you can find can end up hurting you with your player satisfaction. If your players are constantly struggling with website issues, grading mistakes and bad lines they will blame YOU and will probably look elsewhere to gamble their money.
Another old saying is “Penny wise, Pound foolish”. Don’t sacrifice your potential for big profits that come with using a quality, professional pay per head office just to save yourself a few bucks on player fees.
